Shelby blanks Harding

Shelby’s varsity volleyball halted a threegame losing streak Thursday night by turning back Marion Harding 3-0 during a Mid Ohio Athletic Conference match.

The Lady Whippets won games of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-10 to up their record to 4-5 in the MOAC and 6-9 overall.

“We got our middle hitters involved right away and it makes such a difference in taking pressure off the right and left side swings,” said SHS coach Brandie Albert. “We were trying to serve aggressive and collected 12 aces, but also had 11 service errors. That is something that has to be corrected.”

Makenna Miller and Marleigh Albert each sparked Shelby with four service aces. Miller topped the offense with 12 kills while Albert handed out 21 assists to go eight digs and seven kills.

Natalie Grove tallied eight kills and two blocks. Riley Lewis and Miller chipped in three and two blocks, respectively.

Mya Seibert, Kendra Walp and Demi Hipp all collected seven digs. Seibert also had seven assists.

Eve Schwemley was 8 of 8 serving with two aces and Jena Lafon racked up six kills.

Monday the Whippets entertain Western Reserve in a non-conference clash and travel to Galion Tuesday for a MOAC meeting.
