SHS winds up fifth in MOAC tournament

BUCYRUS — The Shelby golf team finished a disappointing fifth at the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference tournament which took place Thursday at the Bucyrus Golf Club.

The Whippets, who entered the start of the week tied for first place in the MOAC, struggled all week. They closed out the conference regular season with a loss at Clear Fork Tuesday and their finish in the league tournament left them in fourth place for the final league standings.

Clear Fork won the conference tournament with a score of 326 and Galion was the runner-up with 331. Rounding out the list were Marion Pleasant (336), River Valley (337), Shelby (340), Marion Harding (352), Ontario (357) and Highland (360).

The results of league play and the conference tournament decided the MOAC championship which was claimed for the fifth straight year by Galion with 24 points and followed by Clear Fork (23), Marion Pleasant (21), Shelby (17), River Valley (10), Ontario (8), Marion Harding (8) and Highland (0).

Ashton Hoffbauer’s 83 paced the Whippets. He was followed by Blake Muntis (84), Nicole Jones (85), Carson Brubaker (88), Ty Keinath (89) and Brody Miller (95).

Monday the Whippets participate in the Edison Invitational at Sawmill Creek Golf Course in Huron.

Plymouth second at Firelands tournament

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth golf team finished as the runner-up in the Firelands Conference tournament which was played Friday at Woody Ridge Golf Course.

Mapleton was crowned the champion with a score of 331 and the Big Red were next with 351.

Sarah Hoak led PHS with an 81 and tied for second in the field while earning first team conference honors.

Jansen Potts was seventh overall with an 87 for Plymouth and garnered second team conference accolades. Elliott Hall earned honorable mention honors with a score of 91.

Also competing for the Big Red were Canaan Slone (92), Cayle Pope (105) and Drake Stanfield (113).

Today the PHS golfers travel to Orrville to participate in the State Farm Invitational at Riceland Golf Course.
