Jami Williams

By Emily Schwan

From childhood, Jami Williams knew she wanted to be a librarian. She felt a strong connection to children and wanted to teach them about the joys of reading. She originally thought she wanted to work in a school library but has found she enjoys working in a public library more.

Jami moved from Pennsylvania to Shelby in 2014 when she accepted the position of Children’s and Young Adult Librarian at the Marvin Memorial Library. She loves living in Shelby because it has the comfort and charm of a small town while being close to bigger towns.

Jami wants the people of Shelby to know about the library, “we do a lot of things, we are always busy, we have a lot of programming, and we offer a lot more than just books.” The summer reading program is beginning on May 31 and runs until July 21. There are summer programs for all ages, including adults. Some of the special guests coming to the library this summer include the Ohio School of Falconry, the Ohio Bird Sanctuary, and one guest will be bringing animatronic dinosaurs.

The Marvin Memorial Library is celebrating its 125th birthday on June 4. The library is planning on having special programs every month for a year in celebration. They are still making plans but be sure to check out their website, marvinlibrary.org, for updates and details on upcoming events.

Jami Williams is a passionate person who loves her job at the library. She enjoys serving the community of Shelby and bringing joy to children and young adults alike. She believes community libraries are a valuable resource and thinks most people would be surprised to learn how much the Marvin Memorial Library offers. Stop in sometime and find out for yourself!
