Bowling Green State University Firelands is continuing its partnership with Eldercollege, which offers lifelong learning experiences for adults over 50 from all educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Eldercollege classes begin Sept. 21 and run through Nov. 18. At $10 per class, courses cover a wide array of topics and include field trips to community organizations and businesses with no tests, homework, or grades. Classes are available in-person and online.

The first session opens at 6 p.m. on Sept. 21 with a free panel discussion, “Scams, Fraud & Exploitation: Understanding why you are a target,” in the Cedar Point Center Auditorium on the BGSU Firelands campus.

The following panelists are scheduled to attend:

Sheriff Paul Sigsworth,

Erie County Sheriff’s Office

Jason Hinner, Erie County Prosecutor’s Office

Sylvia Pla-raith, Ohio Attorney General’s Office Elder Justice Unit

Heidi Turner Stone, Adult Protective Services at Ohio Department of Job and Family Services

Steve Snyder, U.S. Secret Service

“People love to teach and to share what they know,” Eldercollege membership chairperson Karen Walderzak said. “Eldercollege is an opportunity to share and gain knowledge and continue lifelong learning.”

BGSU Firelands and Eldercollege have partnered for the past 15 years and have offered 250 classes to more than 15,000 adults.
