SHS swept by Galion in volleyball

In the second meeting of the season against Galion, coach Brandie Albert and her Shelby varsity volleyball team were hopeful of providing a better accounting of themselves.

“We are disappointed we weren’t better than we were tonight,” said Albert after the club was handed a 3-0 Mid Oho Athletic Conference loss by the Tigers.

Scores of the match were 25-17, 25-17 and 25-11 as the Lady Whippets slipped to 6-3 in the MOAC and 9-8 overall.

“Our goal was to be more competitive and disciplined the second time we saw Galion this year. Tonight was not it,” said the coach.

SHS managed just 21 kills in the match and were haunted by 18 errors. Natalie Grove and Eve Schwemley had five kills apiece.

Serving at 100 percent for Shelby were Mya Seibert, Schwemley and Jena Lafon. The latter had 10 digs.

Marleigh Albert had 10 assists in the match.

Schwemley received 22 serves and Kendra Walp 20.

“We have some things to change around personnel-wise to try and mix up a lineup that is no longer working. We have one night to do it before we play the top team in the league. At this point, we really have nothing to lose.

We have some matches at the end of our season we need to feel urgent about winning, and it can be done. Time to refresh things,” said the coach.

Today the Whippets host Highland.
